Practical Life

Practical LifeThe child wants to mimic their loved ones in all they do. In this capacity, Practical life activities teach the child many skills useful in daily life. Some of the activities your child will engage in include using dressing frames to learn how to use snap buttons, or button their shirt, tie their shoes or fasten a buckle.

Practical life activities enable your child to develop co-ordination. For instance, they learn how to pour water and how to stop pouring. In this natural setting, children learn that if they pour too much, a spill will happen. They learn to clean wet spills with designated cloths for a table or floor, and to clean dry ones with the appropriate brush and dustpan.

The child will cut snippets, straight lines, serpentine and zig zag lines. These exercises assist in the development of critical movements required to cut paper. Practical life activities, as with other areas of the program aids in the development and retention of information. The skills developed are cumulative and transferable. A child will take their cutting ability into our arts program, and cut beautiful shapes for a take home craft. As the child works to master a skill, you can see the progress in their abilities by the crafts they bring home. Reaching milestones regularly makes a positive difference in your child’s life.
